Excel Tips

Just learned a couple things in Excel. Writing them down here so I don't forget.

How to format an if function

=B11+C11+D11+IF(E3="monthly",50*12,0)+IF(E3="upfront",3000,0)+I11

How to create a drop down list for users to select:

http://www.techrepublic.com/article/create-a-list-box-in-excel-to-ensure-data-entry-accuracy/5701540

  1. Select the box you want to have the drop down list or select the column with the data.
  2. Data > Validation.
  3. On the Settings tab, select List from the Allow drop-down list.
  4. Check the two boxes: In-cell Dropdown check box, Ignore Blank
  5. In Source text box, enter the allowable entries separated by commas.

2nd week of nursing school

I think the first post should always tell you what this blog is going to be about, so I don't forget!

I want to keep it as generalized as possible, with minimal 'extra' information about things that have nothing to do about being a nursing student.

This is my mental thoughts out on paper about my life as a first time nursing college student!

Some general background. I'm going to try not to edit my blog posts at all, so it's going to be a clutter of so many ideas and things I want to talk about. It's going to be confusing to read back on, but at least, i'll use simple vocabulary.. so it'll be easy to read :)

So my thoughts on nursing school so far... it's super super super hard. Ooomg... it's not literally.. hard, but I guess its hard because there's so much to know already. I had my 3rd pathopharmocology class today and i'm already overwhelmed with all the information we need to know for that class. In addition to that, there's the other 3 classes too. I have the first test on Thursday on Med Calc, and it's pass/fail. Not too bad, but we need to get 100%. Shit. I'm gonna do a stupid mistake, I just know it. The questions aren't that hard at all, but I'm just prone to stupid mistakes.

This is not good because I know my math skills suck. Like, I NEED my calculator, I do NOT trust myself at all not using one. Hopefully I don't spend too much time doing problems being tedious and checking if I did everything right... and run out of time. That will be the worst.

Anyway, so. I think I developed a studying habit. I just need to find the energy and time to sit down and do it because its a very time consuming way.

Want to know?

All my professors have power point lectures. so I download them to my netbook and type notes onto them during class.

Then, I get my notebook and my colored pens to write it out on paper. The main points and the important points. Also, extra information or explanations the professor said during class. Luckily, I got the netbook before school started, because I can type so much faster than writing. The bad thing is that I type so many things down, sometimes, I realise that it's not really that important when I transfer it down to my notebook. So, I organize the power point information onto the notebook and refer to the textbook for anything I need help on.

Right now, my notes just look like an ugly block of words; no highlighting at all.

When the test comes around, i'm going to go back to that ugly notes notebook and then highlight and make it pretty! To emphasize things that haven't stuck to my brain yet.

And then when it gets really close to the exam day, I'll have a nice, pretty, set of notes to study from. By then... I should definitely know a lot of that shit.

Hopefully this method works. We'll see. ( I did it for anatomy and it worked well)

I had my first lab class today, it was physical assessment. The professor explained SOAP notes, which is a really easy concept, and taught us how to find blood pressures.

It's not really that hard, I just have to be more confident to hearing the tick. Should be totally fine. Need to go to the open lab though to have it down before the test though.. which is next week! Finding the blood pressure on the SIM man is much much MUCH easier than a real person. THANK GOD.

Lol.

This is a lot, i'm going to stop now. Bye!
